Career Overview

Keith has enjoyed a highly successful career in open cut and underground mining spanning almost 4 decades. Keith has a continuous and deep involvement in mining innovation and the application of mathematical techniques to mine modelling and optimisation. Keith specialises in mine transformation and his expertise includes geological modelling, reserves evaluation, pit optimisation, mine design, equipment selection, mine scheduling, backfill design and planning, project costing and economics.

Keith holds a Master degree in Geostatistics and Resource classification that predates the JORC code. Keith has been a passionate early adopter of the use of cutting-edge technology in the mining industry. His first peer reviewed paper on the application of artificial intelligence in mining was presented at APCOM in 1996.

Since 1985, Keith has been continuously involved in global Resource and Reserve estimation, across numerous commodities. For the past 30 years, Keith has authored reports that underpin over USD 15 Billion in transactions. He has stood as an expert witness on 3 continents and has realised order of magnitude transformations in mining projects all over the world.

Career Highlights

  • Completed an Enterprise Optimisation study for an Indonesian Gold mine. This included a net value analysis of the mine, processing facility and financial model, resulting in a substantial increase in NPV and a better understanding of the flowsheet and cost drivers. • Has been involved in a number of Enterprise Optimisations and Strategic Assessments for mining projects across Indonesia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas providing technical mining services to identify key improvements and drivers to raise NPV.
  • Keith is the Partner, Principal Mining Engineer and President Director of SMG Consultants in Indonesia.
  • SMGC completed a Feasibility Study used to support funding on a US$1.2 billion transaction for a coking coal concession, located in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.
  • Lead consulting projects from the full list over 500 projects including more than 250 projects directly executed or managed. Has worked on mining projects in many countries, including Australia, India, Japan, Jordan, Indonesia, China – as well as across the continents of Africa and North and South America. Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, Keith is involved in many mining projects in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Competent Person for a long list of technical reports and valuations for a range of transactions including IPO, RTO, M&A, Sales and Purchase and debt funding, also for capital market transactions on a range of markets including ASX, TSX, AIM, HKX, SGX and IDX.
  • The first foreigner in Indonesia who is registered as a Professional Engineer Indonesia (PII) and the first foreigner to achieve an Executive Professional Engineer (Insinyur Profesional Utama – IPU) Certificate and currently in registration process for ASEAN Engineering Register (AER).
