Career Overview

Philip is a qualified Mineral Processing Engineer with operations and commissioning experience in mineral sands, coal and base metals. Based in Brisbane, but in a role that covers Australasia, Philip assists mining companies access the optimisation services, software and implementation support provided by Whittle Consulting and our key alliance partners.

Prior to joining Whittle Consulting in 2016, Philip worked for 15 years for global consulting engineers, Hatch, in various roles covering technology commercialisation, sustainability and project management. Philip used his technical expertise to develop and launch new mineral process equipment technologies, develop sustainability frameworks and manage studies for mining and metallurgical projects. In these roles, Philip guided tier-1, mid-cap and junior companies through project development and operational optimisation strategies across Australasia, Southern Africa and South America.

Philip’s passion is sustainability in mining. He was a key participant in the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Resource Processing (CRSP), within which he co-developed the SUSOP (Sustainable Operations) framework. As a SUSOP specialist, Philip advocates the benefits of incorporating sustainable development principles into the planning, design and operation of industrial processing plants. He is pleased that the SUSOP philosophy can be integrated into Whittle Consulting Enterprise Optimisation studies to achieve outstanding economic and sustainability outcomes.

Career Highlights

  • Ongoing Project Manager for the Whittle Consulting Enterprise Optimisation study being conducted for the Tujuh Bukit Oxide Expansion Project in Indonesia.
  • Worked as the Study Manager for Energy Resources of Australia’s (ERA) Ranger Uranium Mine Closure Project in the Northern Territory, Australia.
  • Co-developer of the SUSOP methodology undertaken in conjunction with CSRP.
  • Launch Manager for the MIM-developed (now Glencore) ISAMILL ultra-fine grinding technology.
