MONEY MINING DISCUSSION GROUP

Ruth Whittle (profile) recently said "Whittle represents an environment, an awareness, a bold culture for change, a movement towards the future. It represents making a contribution, looking beyond the obvious and doing things in the best possible way. To foster this culture, we need to have open lines of communication and discussion so that new concepts can be put forward and possibly developed."

Whittle Consulting's MONEY MINING discussion group on LinkedIn

Summary: A discussion forum to promote and further develop the concepts and practices of Money Mining, to enable mining businesses to make a step change in their economic performance. By invitation only to previous attendees of Whittle Consulting's "Mining and Mineral Processing Optimisation" seminar, participated in by almost 600 mining professionals worldwide since October 2009.

Description: To allow those who have been exposed to the concepts of Money Mining through Whittle Consulting's Mining and Mineral Processing Optimisation courses to discuss and contribute to the further development of the concepts and issues raised. Longstanding industry paradigms have been challenged, the flaws revealed in conventional silo-based objectives such as "maximising reserves, minimising costs, maximising equipment utilisation, maximising recovery, having consistent production/operations, minimising capital outlay, maximising mine life", revealing how counterproductive these can be to maximising value. Emphasis has been put on the need for a structured approach to understanding risk and uncertainty, the importance of proper cost modelling, the significance of managing bottlenecks and constraints, and the broad applicability of these approaches to open pit, underground, all commodities, etc (they are all money mines!). Most importantly, everyone is a change manager, and needs to take personal responsibility to influence the way the mining business they work within operates by championing change and becoming advocates for the better practices that will ultimately determine the success of their organisations.
